Meet the Author - B. Walker
6 p.m. Thursday, July 26 at Pinckney Hall
Return of the Native Son is the story of Tony Jones, son of a Union Army officer who oversaw the Freedman's Bureau in Beaufort, S.C. after the Civil War. Though being black makes little difference on predominantly black St. Helena, it creates problems when Tony goes to Harvard. When he returns to St. Helena after learning of a devastating hurricane, he meets Jacqueline LeRoux. This is the story of their defiance, courage, despair, and struggle for love and dignity in a society that seeks to deny them both. Pinckney Perk will be open. Free event.
